Important Notice About Your Gas Meter

Our records show that your gas meter is located inside your home, most likely in your garage.

Indoor gas meters can:

PG&E offers two no-cost options to remove or relocate your indoor gas meter.

Option 1: Switch to All-Electric (Recommended)

  • Replace all gas appliances with efficient electric options like an induction cooktop or heat pump for heating and cooling
  • Remove your gas meter
  • Avoid future service visits for gas equipment

This is a long-term, convenient solution for a more comfortable and efficient home.

The program costs are completely covered. You will not need to pay to participate in the program, and all appliances you receive will be free.

If you choose to switch to all-electric appliances and systems at no cost, the process is simple:

  1. Complete an online home energy assessment with our partner, Maiven Energy. You’ll instantly receive a project plan detailing your home’s proposed upgrades.

2. Review and approve the project plan.

3. Schedule a contractor to review your plan and schedule an installation for a more comfortable and efficient home.

Note: Some homes may need extra work before upgrades can begin. See our FAQ for details.

Option 2: Relocate Your Gas Meter

This option means:

  • The meter will be moved to the front of your house, which can be unattractive.
  • The meter will continue to require periodic checks, testing, and potential repairs.
  • Keeping the meter means keeping gas service: You’ll miss out on the opportunity to benefit from the efficiency, comfort, and environmental advantages of switching to all-electric.
  • You will miss out on new appliances free of charge.

If you prefer to relocate your gas meter, no action is needed. PG&E will reach out when it is time to schedule your work.
